In the club’s regular Training Talk feature, Carrick was quizzed on a range of topic before finally being asked to name his ideal 5-a-side team at the club.
For a player that dictates a game and plays an important role in the defence, you might might have imagined the 33-year-old would go down a ‘solid’ route but Carrick didn’t even a pick goalkeeper!
When asked who make the cut, the midfielder said: “I’d go for all-out attack so Falcao, Angel, Robin and Wazza.”
With an actual goalkeeper in the team, it’s a good potential line-up. David de Gea‘s good but he’s not good enough to keep things out when not even selected.
Carrick could easily have slotted himself into the defensive role with captain Rooney in the middle but it appears the midfielder isn’t worried about conceding, rather more hoping his esteemed colleagues keep the ball enough that any potential opponents never get a touch!
Whilst Rooney has been seen to play goalkeeper before in an old Nike advert, it’s unlikely Louis van Gaal would shift his captain any further back than his current midfield slot.
On a serious note, it’s unknown as yet how many of those mentioned will feature against Cambridge on Friday night. Radamel Falcao will hope to play whilst Robin van Persie is rumoured to be in with a chance of a return.
