Real Madrid have officially unveiled the signing of Norwegian wonder-kid Martin Odegaard.
The 16-year-old has joined the current European champions in a deal estimated to be worth at least £2.2m and will earn an astonishing £80,000 a week according to the same reports.
Manchester United were one of a number of clubs across Europe who Odegaard visited in order to help him decide where he wanted to commit his future to, but ultimately Madrid proved too much of a lure for the youngster.
My goal is to become a better footballer,” Odegaard said about his move.
“Playing for the first or second team is not so important.
“It’s a dream come true. It is a bit unreal that I’m here at the biggest club in the world. It’s huge for me, an honour.”
Madrid was considered a strange choice by many critics given that Madrid have a poor track record of nurturing youngsters and giving them the opportunities they need to flourish with first-team football.
However, Odegaard clearly felt differently and who can blame him? He’ll now be training with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo while earning a reported £80,000 a week at the age of just 16, which is simply astonishing.
It will be interesting to see how Odegaard develops over the next few years and whether he can live up to the expectation which will be forever looming over his head.
