Real Madrid have announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro.
The 21-year-old midfielder will be officially unveiled on Monday to put pen to paper on a contract which will keep him at the Spanish club until 2020.
An official statement on Real Madrid’s website said: “Real Madrid C. F. and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Lucas Silva, who will be tied to the club until 30 June 2020.
“The player will be unveiled on Monday 26 January at 1pm CET in the Santiago Bernabéu presidential box, after undergoing the relevant medical examination.
“Subsequently, Lucas Silva will step on to the Santiago Bernabéu pitch for the first time in the Real Madrid shirt and will speak to the media in the press room.”
Prior to joining Real Madrid, Silva’s agent revealed preliminary talks with Man United representatives had taken place but Silva has become the second Man United midfield target in a week to join Madrid after 16-year-old Martin Odegaard completed his move.
As is the case with Man United, there are so many players linked with a move that not all of them end up joining and so it has proved with Silva and Odegaard.
Currently, Victor Valdes is the sole signing for Man United in the January transfer window but there is still enough time for Louis van Gaal to bring in new players before it shuts. We’ll be keeping you up to date on the latest Man United news as and when it happens.
