After struggling with the demands of English football when he first joined United in 2011, David de Gea has undoubtedly grown in stature and is now one of the best goalkeepers in world football aged just 24. United need to do everything possible to ensure De Gea stays at Old Trafford.
Has been a popular figure amongst Man United fans and a loyal servant to the club that quietly got on with things since he arrived in 2010 but the arrival of Victor Valdes will push Anders down to no. 3 in the pecking order. Has been told he can leave the club and would be better suited moving to another team to get first-team football.
Signed on an 18-month contract earlier this month. The experienced Spaniard had been training with United since October under the watchful eye of Louis van Gaal, who knows all about him from his time at Barcelona, giving us ample time to assess his recovery from injury. A more than suitable back up ‘keeper should De Gea pick up an injury or gets rested.
Has only ever made seven appearances for United and Ben is now no.4 in the goalkeeper ranks at Old Trafford. He has time on his side and the potential to find another club, and establish himself as a first choice goalkeeper elsewhere. Simpy hasn’t progressed enough in the last four years to stay at the club.
The U21s goalkeeper is currently out on loan at Preston North End having enjoyed a strong spell at Doncaster Rovers in 2014. Although De Gea is stiff competition, Johnstone has shown great promise and has bags of potential, so United should keep him at the moment at least.
