Former Manchester United target Lucas Silva was presented as a Real Madrid player earlier on Monday afternoon after a completing a deal to join the Champions League winners.
The 21-year-old has come to the attention of several of Europe’s top clubs during 2014 for his performances in Brazil with Cruzeiro.
Off the back off winning his second consecutive Brazilian league title, Silva was also voted best defensive midfielder in the league for the season and won the 2014 Toulon Tournament with the Brazil U20 side.
An increased reputation and a swift move up to U21 level saw the likes of United begin to monitor Silva’s progress and it appeared for a while he was a key target under David Moyes.
Whether or not he was a genuine target for van Gaal will never be known given Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria were all signed and Kevin Strootman remains a primary target but his agent continued to state Silva was an Old Trafford target in November.
The Brazilian is Real Madrid’s second signing of the month after completing a deal for Norwegian sensation Martin Odegaard earlier this month.
