Valdes ‘honoured’ to win with Man Utd on U21s debut

Victor Valdes was quick to pick up the routine several of his Spanish colleagues at Old Trafford have of taking to social media after a match.

Valdes made his unofficial debut for the club with the U21s side against Liverpool on Monday night and was on the winning side, despite not keeping a clean sheet.

The surroundings were fairly different to the Nou Camp but Valdes had a solid debut overall, despite conceding at his near post, and could still make his first-team debut in the FA Cup replay against Cambridge United next week.

It was thought Valdes may make his debut on Friday night in the original match against the League Two side and the fact he now has 90 minutes under his belt may gave him a first-team opportunity soon.

“Was a great honor to win today with the unders 21 in my first game against Liverpoool. Well Done Guys!”

Valdes joined United at the start of January after spending several months training with the club in order to regain fitness.

It came as no surprise as Louis van Gaal gave Valdes his debut at Barcelona and although he insisted he was only helping Valdes rehabilitate his injury, a move always seemed likely and so it proved.
