Manchester United have been in contact with the agent of Aymeric Laporte regarding bringing the young French defender to Old Trafford in the near future.
With United looking to improve their defence, the Athletic Bilbao centre-back has emerged as a top target but as they did with Ander Herrera, United will have to meet the 20-year-old’s £31m release fee.
Whilst reports emerged earlier this week that Louis van Gaal will now only move for the club’s top targets this season, fans may wonder what is stopping the club from buying Laporte now, given his release fee won’t change in the summer.
With the Euro struggling, United would also get a better exchange rate on Laporte’s release fee should they swoop before Monday but it’s looking increasingly likely that United won’t buy this January.
Yesterday Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague said the Spanish club should prepare to receive a bid from Man United for the defender and the defender has been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months. Given his talent, supporters will hope the club aren’t missing a big opportunity in the next few days.
