Man Utd vs Leicester – Potential 4-4-2: Van Persie left out

Of all the potential formations and line-ups we’ve taken a look at this week for Manchester United’s game against Leicester City, this is our favourite.

Although last week’s performance against Cambridge United was poor, Man United’s best football this season has undoubtedly come when Louis van Gaal has set-up his side in a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

In this example, we’ve pushed Wayne Rooney back to where he should be playing every week – as a striker. Van Gaal may like him playing deeper in order to try and influence the play more but with the likes of Angel di Maria, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera in the side, he should simply be trying to score goals. His best form this season has come in this position.

We’ve left Robin van Persie to accommodate for Rooney being reinstated as a striker alongside Radamel Falcao with Juan Mata in behind him as Man United’s no.10.
