Marnick Vermijl’s move to Lokeren collapses

Marnick Vermijl was set to undergo a medical at Belgian side Lokeren today ahead of a transfer but the deal has collapsed.

Lokeren lined up a move for Vermijl after contract negotiations with their current right-back Georgios Galitsios collapsed but after a U-turn from the greek international, Lokeren now have no need for Vermijl.

News of the deal for Vermijl emerged this morning from the Belgian press:

But almost as quickly as the reports emerged, they were ended after news about Galitsios trickled through:

For Vermijl, he’ll be desperately disappointed that the move collapsed because since returning from a loan spell at NEC Nijmegen last season, he has failed to break through into Manchester United’s first-team despite there being plenty of opportunities at right-back.

Of course, with a few days left in the transfer window there is still time for Vermijl to secure a move away because as much as he’ll want to break into Man United’s first-team, his future looks away from Old Trafford.
