Michael Carrick ruled out for a month with muscle rupture

Louis van Gaal has revealed Michael Carrick suffered a muscle rupture and will be sidelined for four weeks.

The 33-year-old already missed a large chunk of Manchester United’s season after undergoing surgery on his ankle before the campaign kicked off and will now be missing up until March.

Carrick’s importance to the team after he returned from injury was obvious as it coincided with United’s best form of the season and it’s a blow for Van Gaal that injuries have immediately come back into the squad just as it was beginning to look at full strength.

Fortunately for Man United, just like when Daley Blind suffered a bad injury and Carrick returned, the Dutch midfielder is now ready and available for selection, so will more than likely slot straight back into his role as the deep lying midfielder.

Man United fans are hoping Carrick’s injury will open up opportunities as well for Ander Herrera given how little game time he has had this season.
