Van Gaal rules out signing any more players in January

by Richard Laverty

Louis van Gaal has ruled out any arrivals at Manchester United before Monday night’s transfer day deadline.

United have been linked with plenty of players throughout January and it was thought the club may move for a top target such as Nathaniel Clyne or Mats Hummels.

But with top targets unavailable, Van Gaal had already ruled out moving for stop-gap signings despite the likes of Marquinhos, Ron Vlaar and Austria international Aleksandar Dragovic being strongly linked.

Speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of the Leicester game, van Gaal confirmed the only business going on would be outgoings.

“I don’t think it’s favourable for the league because it’s a little bit unfair,” he said.

“You start a league and then you change your team – the richer clubs can do that and it’s not fair for other clubs.

“But that’s the rule and you can take benefit of it. We are doing nothing – that I have already said – but I read every day that I or Manchester United are interested in other players.

“We only have Victor Valdes [as a January signing]. We gave him a chance. We are only selling players, not buying them.”

Van Gaal confirmed Darren Fletcher is in London ahead of a potential move to West Ham whilst reports emerged yesterday that Anderson could also be on his way back to Brazil with Internacional.

Whilst there are no more departures expected, United fans will be interested to see if any loan move for Adnan Januzaj materialises before the deadline.
