In news that will be music to the ears of Manchester United fans, Louis van Gaal has confirmed his intention to start using a 4-4-2 formation once again.
Having switched to a 3-5-2 formation in order to bring more defensive solidarity to the team, Man United’s attacking threat has massively suffered as a consequence.
Now, Van Gaal is prepared to bring back the 4-4-2 formation in order to give United more impetus in attack but wants to see more balance among his players in terms of how tight they are in defence.
It’s what almost every Man United fan would have wanted to hear. Attacking football is part of Man United’s identity and although a 4-4-2 formation will more than likely put David de Gea‘s goal under threat more often, it will be balanced out by United attacking forward in numbers.
United fans have been waiting a long time to hear Van Gaal promote the 4-4-2 formation and it seems like Van Gaal is prepared to take that risk, starting with Leicester City at home.
