Blind: Patience and possession were key to victory

by Richard Laverty

Mancheser United midfielder Daley Blind was pleased with the way he and his team-mates played as the team recorded a 3-1 win against Leicester City on Saturday.

It was one of United’s more convincing results of the season as they raced into a 3-0 lead after 45 minutes with Blind at the heart of the performance.

The Dutchman orchestrated things back in his familiar midfield position after several games covering for Luke Shaw at left-back.

His deft lobbed pass for Robin van Persie opened the scoring for United and allowed the team to race into a position where there was no repeat of September’s comeback for the visitors.

Blind himself had a hand in the third but his header was given as an own goal, despite that the midfielder was happy overall.

He said:”We are pleased with the result. We tried to keep possession and create chances from that. We were the better team, keeping possession and scoring goals.

“Once you score the first goal the other team has to do something.

“We played a good game with a lot of patience and ball possession. The first-half was very good, in the second-half maybe we had too much patience.

“But we tried to kill the game with possession and create chances from that.”

Blind has become an increasingly popular figure with supporters within Old Trafford. His positioning and ease on the ball is something United have lacked and if he continues such form he’ll be crucial to the run-in as we enter February.
