Manchester United haven’t been active in the January transfer window in terms of new signings but reports in France close to Paris St Germain’s Marquinhos believe Man United are lining up a €50m move on deadline day.
GFN first reported that United were interested in the Brazilian centre-back earlier in January and have followed up on initial reports from Le10Sport in France who believe United are in negotiations with PSG but the French champions are reluctant to lose such a talented player.
PSG are believed to be willing to negotiate with United but it still appears as though the club wouldn’t want to lose Marquinhos this window and that a summer move could be more likely.
Louis van Gaal‘s pursuit of the player may be aided by his will to play more games. He has struggled to muscle his way ahead of international team-mates Thiago Silva and David Luiz and has regularly been benched or played out of position at right-back.
Van Gaal said United wouldn’t buy any players this window during his press conference ahead of Saturday’s 3-1 win against Leicester but it hasn’t stopped fresh reports emerging linking Marquinhos with a move. That being said, pulling off a transfer of this magnitude at short notice would certainly be a surprise.
We’ll be covering transfer deadline day tomorrow and will bring you all the latest updates as and when they happen.
