Manchester United recorded their second win in a row against Leicester City on Saturday and it was much needed after a sticky spell of dropping points over Christmas.
The end of Man United’s unbeaten run prompted rival fans and the media to point to the fact Louis van Gaal had accumulated only the same amount of points as David Moyes did but a new graphic shows exactly where Van Gaal is game-for-game against the current Real Sociedad boss.
It certainly shows Van Gaal has made United a much better side at home and indeed no team has scored more home goals this season than United with 25.
But to credit Moyes, he had the best away record in the league and won at Aston Villa, West Brom and Sunderland, grounds where Van Gaal has so far faltered.
The main difference lies in the positions. Van Gaal has United sitting third despite no remarkable improvement on the pitch and has a run of fixtures now to consolidate that position.
United face West Ham away, Burnley and Sunderland at home and an away game at Swansea before a difficult run of games through March and April.
From the corresponding fixtures, Moyes won at both Upton Park and on the opening day against Swansea whilst Ryan Giggs lost his only game of his four in charge at home to Sunderland after Moyes had been sacked.
