Barnsley boss wants Pearson loan extension

by Sam Peoples

Barnsley boss Danny Wilson hopes to keep Ben Pearson at the League One side past his current one-month loan spell which expires in early February.

Having been named Man on the Match on his debut, Pearson followed it up with his first senior goal in Barnsley’s 2-1 victory over Port Vale at the weekend.

Following his impressive early performances, Wilson has admitted he’d like Pearson to stay at Barnsley: “I’d like to think I’d be able to keep him [on loan],” he said.

Given how well Pearson has done straight away at Barnsley, it certainly looks like it would be beneficial for Louis van Gaal to allow him to stay out on loan for longer in order for him to get more first-team football under his belt.

Everybody who followed Pearson through United’s U18s and U21s knew he had fantastic potential and hoped he’d be able to show it at Barnsley, which is precisely what he has done.

After how well he has done in a short space of time, it would be a surprise to see Pearson return to Man United in order to play for the U21s.
