There was once a time when Manchester United fans would sit back on transfer deadline day with some popcorn to watch on as clubs frantically ran around looking for last minute deals.
Sir Alex Ferguson always tended to do his business earlier in the window which meant a relaxing end to the window but those days left with the Govan Boy. Now the shoe is firmly on the other foot and Man United approach this transfer deadline day in need of new signings, signings which aren’t coming suggests Mark Ogden of The Telegraph.
When it comes to news regarding United, Ogden used to have his finger on the button and he may well have been briefed by the club in this instance which suggests that, despite rumours all month surrounding the likes of Mats Hummels and Kevin Strootman, United will wait until the summer to make their moves.

Yet, reports linking the likes of Aleksandar Dragovic and Marquinhos are still simmering and if there’s something that transfer deadline day has taught Man United, it’s to read between the lines. Take last summer for example:
Come early the next morning, Radamel Falcao shocked the world by agreeing a deal to join United on loan when it had seemed almost certain he was either heading for local rivals Man City or a move to Real Madrid.
Loan agreed for Falcao at Mufc

Whilst it would be ambitious to expect any sort of repeat given how quiet and reserved Man United have been in the January transfer window, it does show that anything can happen on deadline day…
