Manchester United may recall Tom Cleverley from his Aston Villa loan if they do not sign him permanently in January.
Cleverley moved to Aston Villa on loan last summer following a frustrating few years at Old Trafford and there were reports earlier this season suggesting that the Villains were looking to complete a £7.5m permanent move for the midfielder.
With Cleverley’s contract ending in the summer, Villa could be willing to wait in order to sign him on a free transfer.
The news that Cleverley might come back will come as a shock to United fans who were relieved to see Cleverley go following some increasingly mediocre performances. It is not as if the club are short in midfield following the acquisitions of Daley Blind and Ander Herrera in the summer.
Despite some good patches of form in a United shirt, Cleverley is unlikely to be part of the club’s long-term future regardless of whether he moves back to the club in January.
