Andy Kellett thought Man Utd move was a wind-up says Neil Lennon

Bolton manager Neil Lennon has revealed Andy Kellett thought it was a wind-up when told Manchester United were interested in taking him on loan.

The 21-year-old was a surprise signing by Louis van Gaal right at the end of the transfer window and came as part of a deal which saw Saidy Janko go the other way on loan.

“It’s a great opportunity for Andy,” Lennon told reporters this afternoon.

“We called about Saidy & Man Utd asked for him to go the other way. He thought it was a wind-up.”

Fans were equally as surprised by the announcement of Kellett on loan. Having only made a few appearances for Bolton Wanderers and also Plymouth Argle (on loan), Kellett is very inexperienced which points towards him being a player for the U21s but in that scenario, it may have been more beneficial to promote one of the U18s into Warren Joyce’s U21s.

It would come as a surprise to see Kellett anywhere near the first-team during his loan spell but Louis van Gaal is a man of many surprises, so he’ll probably start against West Ham at the weekend.
