After talk of Mats Hummels and Paul Pogba joining Manchester United in recent weeks it came as a shock for fans to hear about the signing of Andy Kellett from Bolton Wanderers on loan late last night.
The 21-year-old spent time on loan at Plymouth Argyle this season and scored a fine first goal in professional football but little else is known about the defender.
Having made four appearances for Bolton’s first-team and 15 at Argyle, Kellett admitted that he thought it was a wind-up when he was first told that Man United were interested in bringing him in.
He will more than likely provide defensive cover for Warren Joyce’s U21s side as Saidy Janko has gone the other way to Bolton in order to gain much-needed first team experience.
We asked Man United fans to have their say on Kellett joining the club on loan:
@PeoplesPerson_ If our so called fans know anything about the U21 then they will know what a hard job Joyce has, either his players go on

@PeoplesPerson_ loan or they are used in the 1st team. Kellett arrives as a option for the U21 at best
— Le Roi (@apcmtb) February 3, 2015
@PeoplesPerson_: Definitely. He clearly hasn't been signed to link up with the first team even in a later stage in his career.

@PeoplesPerson_ yes, short of numbers but had to get janko first team experience.

@PeoplesPerson_ absolutely signed for Joyse and u21. LVG will have no idea who he is. I don't have an issue, but media makes a lot out of it

@PeoplesPerson_ good move for Janko to get some first team experience. That's the main point of the whole deal

Jesse Lingard was also taken out of the U21s and sent out to Derby on loan during a relatively quiet deadline day for Man United.
In a week where Gary Neville has spoken about placing faith in youth, it is encouraging to see Man United do exactly that.
