Van Gaal: Man Utd can still win the Premier League title

by Sam Peoples

Louis van Gaal believes Manchester United can still win the Premier League title despite a ten point gap between them and Chelsea.

United are currently third in the league, five points behind second-placed Manchester City but have the advantage of no Champions League football this year, United’s only distraction being the FA Cup.

Although the club’s main aim this season is to qualify for the Champions League, Van Gaal says United are still harbouring ambitions of winning the title.

Speaking about the league, Van Gaal said: ”I’m always looking up, never looking down. I’m living in the present and not the past.

“You never know what will happen, City and Chelsea are in the Champions League. Its not easy, but we have to win by ourselves.

“We can look to the other teams but we have to look at ourselves. Arsenal and Spurs are behind us and it is not a big difference.”

Frustrating results against teams such as Leicester City and Burnley meant United have dropped behind in the title race but as Van Gaal says, anything is possible.

United fans will take heart from Liverpool’s failed title bid last year where it looked like they had sealed it only for Manchester City to finish top following a dramatic late loss against Chelsea.

With Southampton, Arsenal and Tottenham close behind United in the race for fourth, the Old Trafford outfit will have to stay alert in order to compete in Europe again next season.
