Away from home hasn’t been Manchester United’s strong point this season and a tough away day to West Ham United on Sunday won’t be an easy fixture.
It’s likely to be a very physical game from the first whistle. West Ham won’t need an invitation to get stuck in and their strength in the air could cause Man United’s defence no end of problems if the deliveries are good.
With that in mind, Louis van Gaal could decide to put out an XI which gives United some real physical presence. It’s something which could see Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney in central midfield together.
The big omission from this line-up is Angel di Maria as the Argentine is relatively weak when it comes to physical power and Rooney has taken up his position.
As for the strikeforce, Robin van Persie partners Radamel Falcao which leaves James Wilson on the bench. Overall, it’s a formation which panders to West Ham but Van Gaal may consider it the best way for Man United to achieve ‘balance’ against the London side.
