Ashley Young has revealed Eric Cantona is the former Manchester United player that he would like to have played with most at the club.
Cantona’s unique playing style and attitude quickly made him a fans’ favourite at Man United after he joined from Leeds United in 1992.
On the pitch, Cantona was a leader and off it he was a maverick. The only rules he followed were the ones he set himself and during his time at the club, he won four Premier League titles and two FA Cups. As far as individuals go, few bettered Cantona’s complete persona.
Speaking about which former player he would like to return to United in a Q+A session on his Facebook page with fans, Young said: “Eric Cantona – I’ve seen so much footage of him and you can tell how highly thought of he is because the fans still sing his name.”
Just imagine how good it would be to have a Cantona in his prime leading the line under Louis van Gaal. It’s the stuff of dreams.
Young still has a long way to go to match Cantona’s status at United but the 29-year-old made his 100th appearance for the Red Devils after coming on as a late substitute against Cambridge United on Tuesday.
The FA Cup tie was his first game back for over a month for Young having been sidelined with a hamstring injury.
