Andy Kellett could make Man Utd debut for U21s tonight

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United’s U21s take on Chelsea tonight and new signing Andy Kellett could make his debut for the club.

Kellett signed for Man United on deadline day in a deal which saw Saidy Janko go the other way to join Bolton Wanderers on loan, much to the surprise of fans given that there had been no previous mention of Kellett in the build-up to the transfer deadline.

The 21-year-old left-back spent some time on loan at Plymouth Argyle this season but should be drafted straight into Warren Joyce’s squad for tonight’s tough game against Chelsea.

Although not many fans knew about Kellett before he joined, he was on the radar of U21s boss Joyce from 2013 after some strong performances, so there was certainly some thought behind the decision to bring him to Man United in January.

Left-back is a position where Man United’s U21s don’t have a set starter so there will be some opportunities for Kellett to impress and if he is given his debut tonight by Joyce, it’d be the perfect chance to showcase himself up against what is one of the tougher teams at U21s level.
