Carragher: Falcao will leave Man Utd

Jamie Carragher doesn’t think Radamel Falcao will be signed by Manchester United on a permanent deal in the summer.

The Colombian striker was in poor form during Man United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham and spurned a glorious opportunity to score when put clean through on goal.

It’s been a disappointing season so far for Falcao despite some promising moments and Carragher feels his lack of application alongside Robin van Persie against West Ham really played into West Ham’s hands.

“I think Louis van Gaal has got a problem with his strike force,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I don’t see Falcao staying at the end of the season and it’s something Manchester United will have to address in the striking department.

“Van Persie and Falcao were just jogging up field, ambling up and they didn’t cause a make-shift West Ham back four enough problems. United have got big problems at that end of the pitch. There is not enough movement from the front two, there’s no sprint, spark or energy.”

“West Ham showed pace and energy through Sakho and Valencia in the first half to get in behind the United defence. But Falcao and Van Persie failed to exploit the same spaces.

“They were just jogging up field, especially Van Persie, ambling up and they didn’t cause a make-shift West Ham back four enough problems.

“When United were in the wide areas, Falcao was ball-watching and that made him easy to mark. He should have been running down the channels. There is not enough movement from the front two, there’s no sprint, spark or energy and that was in complete contrast to West Ham.”

It’s not often that you’ll find Man United fans in agreement with a scouser but Carragher is spot on with his criticism of Falcao’s movement.

If there is one thing which has impressed United fans about Falcao in recent games it has been his movement and willingness to create space to attack but that willingness was non-existent at Upton Park yesterday.

Time is short for Falcao as he only has a few months to prove he is worth signing on a permanent deal and performances like that against West Ham won’t do him any favours. The fact of the matter is that Falcao needs to improve and do so quickly if he wants to earn himself a permanent move to Man United in the short time left this season.
