Mata: Burnley game is a must win for Man Utd

by Ben Topliss

Juan Mata has urged Manchester United to win all three points against Burnley on Wednesday night following their disappointing 1-1 draw with West Ham United yesterday.

Cheikhou Kouyate put the Hammers in a good position at Upton Park after opening the scoring on 49 minutes and it looked like they might see out a victory but Daley Blind fired home late on to salvage a point for Louis van Gaal’s side.

The result is a positive one for United given West Ham’s good record at home this season but they did not help themselves by producing a sloppy performance against West Ham.

Mata believes the result means anything less than a win against Burnley would be unacceptable and speaking about the West Ham game, Mata said: “We saw all the good work that West Ham are doing this season, and they were a threat to David [De Gea] several times. They are always tough to beat at home, and their position in the table is well deserved.

“We play at home against Burnley and we must win this one because the race for the Champions League spots is now very close.

“We have to get the three points at home, we know that, and that’s what we are working for. I’m sure we will make it with our people’s help.”

To get three points against Burnley is crucial for United as they look to stay in the top four of the Premier League table.

A win is far from guaranteed however as United again suffered from an insipid performance. Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao failed to gel as a partnership, Wayne Rooney looked poor in midfield and Angel di Maria had minimal influence on the game.

Van Gaal will need to make a number of tough decisions and quickly if he is to get the balance of the team right and restore them to winning ways.
