Manchester United vs Burnley: Team line-ups – Adnan Januzaj preferred to Ander Herrera

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has named an attacking line up to face Burnley at Old Trafford tonight but there is no room in the starting XI for Ander Herrera.

Manchester United: De Gea; McNair, Jones, Evans, Rojo; Blind; Di Maria, Rooney; Januzaj; van Persie, Falcao
Subs: Valdes, Smalling, Valencia, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Wilson

Van Gaal has instead chosen to play Adnan Januzaj and Angel di Maria on the wings in what looks like a 4-4-2 diamond formation.

Wayne Rooney continues to be employed in midfield but starts slightly higher up behind Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao.

Paddy McNair is preferred to Antonio Valencia at right back after signing a new contract this week. Marcos Rojo will operate on the opposite flank with Luke Shaw suspended.

United simply cannot afford to slip up against Burnley if they are to achieve their aim of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Van Gaal’s side will need to be quick out of the blocks in order to put their opponents under pressure immediately. Anything less than three points at home would be a failure for United.
