MUTV Predicted XI: Manchester United vs Burnley – Rooney up front, Herrera starts

by Ben Topliss

MUTV’s Stuart Gardner has named his predicted Manchester United XI to face Burnley at Old Trafford tonight.

Ashley Young misses out despite his return from injury so Marcos Rojo occupies the left back position. Jonny Evans comes in the middle of defence while Antonio Valencia gets the nod at right back.

In midfield, a diamond consisting of Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Angel di Maria and Juan Mata means Wayne Rooney starts up front. The change will delight United fans as Rooney has looked increasingly mediocre when employed in the middle of the park this season.

Rooney’s position higher up the field means Robin van Persie drops to the bench. Radamel Falcao is instead chosen to partner the England captain.

This formation and line up will delight United fans who have clambered for Herrera to replace Rooney in midfield so the 29-year-old can play up top.

Regardless of the line up three points is essential for United as they bid to qualify for Champions League football next season.
