Manchester United’s Michael Carrick suffers injury setback

by Ben Topliss

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Michael Carrick has suffered a minor setback in his return from injury.

Van Gaal recently said Carrick might be back sooner than expected after the England midfielder had originally been ruled out for four weeks with a muscle rupture.

It now appears that this is not the case following van Gaal’s comments.

The experienced Dutch manager also stopped short of updating fans with Carrick’s expected return date

It will be frustrating for United fans to hear the news of Carrick’s setback, particularly combined with injuries to Daley Blind and Phil Jones.

It looked like United might finally be heading back to full strength prior to the game against Burnley but the club’s injury curse has continued.

United enjoyed arguably their best period of form with Carrick in the team so van Gaal will want to get him back in the starting XI as soon as possible. We’ll be keeping you up to date with developments as Carrick, Blind and Jones all bid to return to the side.
