Awarded to the highest ranking players from this gameweek, it’s no surprise to see Smalling in there given how impressive his cameo was against Burnley which included two goals.
Rojo filled in at left-back for the game on Wednesday and deputised well for Luke Shaw who was suspended having been sent off against West Ham.
Although he got a place in best XI, it wasn’t Rojo’s best performance in a Man United. He looks far more comfortable in a centre-back role rather than at full-back, so hopefully Shaw will come straight back into the starting XI to face Preston to allow Rojo back in his favoured position.
Smalling became the first defender in five years to score a perfect ten on WhoScored’s rating system thanks to his two goals rather than defensive solidarity given that he was exposed on a couple of occasions.
Either way, for a team who cannot defend, Man United really aren’t doing badly with only one loss in 18 games.
