With reports surfacing linking Manchester United with Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger, we decided to ask The Peoples Person Twitter followers a simple question:
“Schweinsteiger’s contract is up in the summer. Do you think Man United should go for him?”
It should be noted that Schweinsteiger’s contract is actually up in 2016 rather than the 2015 reported by The Guardian’s transfer round-up but the point still stands with regards to Schweinsteiger.
What did our Twitter followers think? For once, there was an overwhelming and unanimous agreement – sign him.
@PeoplesPerson_ He is 30 and has good 2-3 yrs of top level football left in him. Great player to get for free.

@PeoplesPerson_ Yes absolutely.

@PeoplesPerson_ He will be 31 in Aug & would probably want to be a starter. He might be great, but build a team around a player at that age?

@PeoplesPerson_ Yes, without doubt. I can’t see it happening though.

@PeoplesPerson_ Absolutely.

@PeoplesPerson_ Assuming Strootman is a no go, yes definitely.

Schweinsteiger, who will be 31 in August, would bring a wealth of experience of leadership in the middle and the fact he previously played under Louis van Gaal in a successful Bayern Munich side is something that would attract van Gaal as he’ll know his philosophy inside out.
Of course, Schweinsteiger would not be available on a free if his contract expires in 2016 but with Kevin Strootman and Arturo Vidal injury concerns still in the thoughts of Man United fans, would Schweinsteiger be an experienced alternative?
