Louis van Gaal dismisses David de Gea individual praise

Louis van Gaal has brushed away discussion about whether David de Gea has single-handedly won Manchester United lots of points so far this season.

De Gea has been in inspired form for Man United under van Gaal and although the Dutchman seemingly doesn’t want to give him too much individual praise, there’s no doubting how important he has been in helping United into third position in the league.

When questioned if de Gea had won United a lot of points this season, van Gaal responded: “I think he doesn’t save many points because he is my goalkeeper and his obligation is to hold balls.

“And you are thinking that is an exception for other goalkeepers and it is not like that, I am sorry for that.”

Van Gaal’s decision not to praise de Gea’s form might come as a surprise to some but typically part of his management style is that he doesn’t give individual praise to players.

Although he has praised some players individually at times, van Gaal tends to focus on the team both in defeat and victory.

It will be behind the scenes where van Gaal and his staff will praise de Gea for his performances this season and so they should be because the fact of the matter is that he has indeed won Man United plenty of points on his own.

Fans are now hoping contract negotiations begin to gather pace and United can move closer to securing de Gea’s long-term future at the club.
