Nick Powell suffers injury playing for Manchester United’s U21s against Everton

Nick Powell had to be taken off before half-time with a suspected injury during Manchester United’s U21s game against Everton on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old midfielder looked very dangerous in the opening exchanges and was Man United’s main goal threat until he was forced off which would have been disappointing for him.

Given how little game time Powell got on loan at Leicester City this season, it was no surprise to see him taking his time to settle back into life at Man United but an injury setback is a blow for him in terms of progression.

Ever since he burst onto the scene with a goal against Wigan Athletic at Old Trafford during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, Powell has endured plenty of ups and downs in his short career.

A strong loan spell at Wigan was followed by what should have been a step-up with a move to Leicester in the Premier League but he played hardly any football at all, so it was effectively a pointless loan.

Man United fans are hoping Powell’s injury is nothing more than a minor issue because he really needs to get back into playing regularly if he is going to be able to progress.
