Steve McClaren is delighted with the impact that his newly loaned players have had at Derby County and backed Jesse Lingard to become a real asset for the Championship side.
Lingard played in Tuesday night’s 3-3 draw with Rotherham and although he didn’t get on the score sheet, he assisted Darren Bent’s equaliser with a fantastic mazy dribble at pace which showcased how good a ball carrier he can be.
Derby are flying high in the Championship and are currently only one point behind table topping Middlesbrough which is great experience for Lingard and something he’ll be hoping to make the most from.
“I think he is going to be a real asset for us,” McClaren said.
“You see his threat, his pace and intelligence.
“We have some good players now and a good squad.”
It’s great to see Lingard coming straight back into first-team football and showing the same sort of form which earned him his full debut on the opening day of the season against Swansea.
Having signed a new long-term deal before he joined Derby on loan, Lingard’s future lies at Old Trafford but in the short-term he’ll be hoping to get the most out of his loan spell at Derby.
