Juan Mata has been in and out of Manchester United’s team in recent months but will be looking to start against Swansea City this weekend.
The Spaniard was given a chance in midfield by Louis van Gaal after Wayne Rooney was sent off against West Ham United earlier in the campaign but Mata failed to take the opportunity and instead put in some frustrating performances.
Fans know how good the 26-year-old can be given he won Chelsea’s Player of the Year award two years in a row before he joined United and they will be hoping he can replicate that form as the team head into the tail end of the season.
Mata will be keen to return to the starting XI against Swansea and took to Twitter to share a picture of Friday’s training session:
Mata announced himself to United fans with a helicopter ride into Carrington last season amid a flurry of excitement.
The episode caught the imagination but he has struggled to do the same on the pitch.
Although Mata has a good goalscoring record for United, he has never really controlled a game for the club in the same way that David Silva and Cesc Fabregas do for Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
However, he is capable of changing games so if Louis van Gaal starts him against Swansea, fans will be hoping Mata puts in one of those performances.
