Louis van Gaal: Manchester United must improve

by Ben Topliss

Louis van Gaal believes his Manchester United side has room for improvement despite some good results in recent weeks.

Man United are through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and are third in the Premier League but have come under fire for some mediocre performances this season.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce mocked United after the 1-1 draw between the two sides earlier this month and the team were far below their best in a 3-1 win over Burnley last week.

Van Gaal has stated that he isn’t happy with United’s displays and that he wants them to improve.

Speaking about how satisfied he is with United, van Gaal said: ”I am never happy. You never can play the perfect match, but I think we can play better than we show now.

“The main thing is to win, not to lose and we score fantastic goals that we have practiced in training, but the most important thing is the spirit of the team.

“We have shown a lot of times this year this spirit and that is attractive to the fans.”

Despite some poor showings, van Gaal has moulded a United team which is incredibly tough to beat with one loss in 19 games testament to that.

They will have to be at their best to see off Swansea City on Saturday, particularly with the return of the dangerous Gylfi Sigurdsson following a suspension.
