Here is the latest Manchester United team news ahead of today’s game against Swansea.
Robin van Persie and Phil Jones are going to be part of Man United’s squad to face Swansea having returned to training this week. If Louis van Gaal saw fit, he may draft both players immediately into his starting XI.
Jones and Rojo has been one of united’s best centre-back partnerships this year so it would be good to re-kindle that straight away but a misfiring van Persie hasn’t earned himself a spot back in the starting XI during recent performances.
Injury wise, only Michael Carrick has been ruled out of the Swansea game. The 33-year-old is yet to recover from a ruptured muscle but van Gaal did reveal Carrick was likely to return to training next week, so it sounds like he is on schedule.
Although Daley Blind has done a good job in the midfield anchor role, Carrick is somebody who van Gaal will want available as soon as possible because of the calming presence he brings to the side.
Van Gaal didn’t comment further on whether Wayne Rooney will play up front against Swansea but with van Persie available to play, there’s every chance United’s captain will be forced back into midfield once again to accommodate the Dutch striker.
