Manchester United vs Swansea: Potential 4-4-2 diamond – Wilson and Young start

After another abject performance by Manchester United’s attack, what does Louis van Gaal have to do to make things change?

Wayne Rooney was pushed up front for the second game in succession but his natural tendency to drop slightly deeper to instigate the attacks meant Robin van Persie was tasked with finishing and he couldn’t hit a barn door against Swansea.

With Radamel Falcao also out of form, it points towards the baton being passed to James Wilson. With United’s other attackers looking so strikingly out form, it’s time for the 19-year-old to show whether he can deliver.

Ashley Young has made a big difference to United’s attack in the last two games he has come as a substitute, so we’ve put him into the starting XI this time, albeit in a different role to usual.

Luke Shaw played well against Swansea but was taken off for Young in order to add his crosses, so why not play Young in a left central midfield position with Shaw at left-back and have both of them on the left flank? Young’s defensive discipline would also add more balancce into midfield.
