Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera claims (rather unsurprisingly) that Lionel Messi would be his ideal signing at Old Trafford.
It’s hardly a great shock given Messi’s status as one of the top two players in world football and potentially one of the greatest ever, and United could certainly do with some extra fire-power up front right now.
Herrera was speaking at an event on Monday afternoon alongside Radamel Falcao and the pair were both quizzed on their ideal additions to the United squad.
The Spanish midfielder has two goals in two games and is probably United’s most in-form player and he’d certainly benefit from having someone with Messi’s skill and movement ahead of him.

Whilst it’s a highly unrealistic probability, United were at the very least named as one of the clubs lately who could afford the Barcelona striker under current FFP rules, but Falcao went down a different avenue.
The Colombian striker has suffered from having next to no chances created for him this season so it’s not a surprise he named Paul Scholes as his ideal signing, although midfielder Herrera may disagree given his lack of playing time with the current squad members.
Herrera claimed his choice was ‘not good United fans’ and indeed it would take quite a chunk of United’s budget, but it would be wild to believe any supporter would turn down Messi if he rocked up in a red shirt next season.
