Michael Carrick continues working his way back from injury

Michael Carrick took part in some events for a Manchester United Foundation event yesterday in which players visited schoolkids.

As part of the event, Carrick had a knockabout with some youngsters and it was good to see the 33-year-old back with a football at his feet.

If Carrick wasn’t on the road to recovery, he certainly wouldn’t be allowed to take part in the charity event by Louis van Gaal so it’s good to see his rehabilitation is going well.

Having already suffered a setback on his way back to fitness, van Gaal confirmed Carrick would be back training with the first-team this week.

At this stage, van Gaal hasn’t given a confirmed return date for Carrick but fans are keen to have the composed midfielder back available for selection.

Carrick’s absence has coincided with a downturn in form for Man United and although the two aren’t directly correlated, van Gaal will certainly be keen to have his vice-captain back as soon as possible.

United are about to go into the business end of the season which is when somebody with Carrick’s experience will be crucial in helping those players new to the experience.
