Nani has revealed he still Manchester United and is open to staying there next season should Louis van Gaal want him.
Nani is currently spending the season on loan at Sporting Lisbon and has put in some impressive performances where he has scored eight goals in 23 appearances this term.
His latest strike, a stunning 30 yard half-volley in Sporting’s match against Gil Vicente, has won him a number of plaudits from United fans and there have been calls for him to return to the club in the summer.
Nani himself has said he would be happy to stay at United if he was wanted.
Speaking about his future, Nani said: ”I love Manchester United. The only decision I made was to play more and be me again, because I lost a lot of things there last season due to injuries and the change of manager.
“The new manager didn’t know me well and a lot of things changed. I needed to play regularly to be happy. You never know the future. It depends on a lot of things.
“If United want me to stay then with a different mentality I think we can work well next season but there are a lot of things to discuss and see.”
Nani has certainly enjoyed his time away from United and he would come back a rejuvenated player.
The team has struggled for width this season and van Gaal could experiment with a 4-3-3 formation if Nani were to return to the starting XI.
Nani and Angel di Maria on the wings looks good on paper but whether it would work in practice would be a different story. Regardless, Nani’s inclusion would give van Gaal a different dynamic to the team as he looks to bring back more attacking football to Old Trafford.
