Tyler Blackett is delighted to have signed a new contract at Manchester United after spending his entire career at the club.
The 20-year-old committed himself to United until at least June 2017, with an option to extend for a further year.
After Danny Welbeck left the club last summer, United were missing homegrown players in the squad but several youngsters have made the step up from the U21s during this campaign.
Blackett, Paddy McNair and James Wilson have all impressed after being called up by Louis van Gaal. Blackett has found himself out the squad in recent weeks but was pleased to extend his stay at the club.
Speaking about his new deal, Blackett said: “I’m thrilled to have signed my new contract. I have supported United all my life and have been here since I was eight years old.
“To come through the Academy and make my debut this season was a dream come true. I want to keep improving within the first-team squad with the help of the manager, coaches and the players around me.”
McNair also signed a new contract until 2017 earlier this month and it is encouraging to see United’s youngsters rewarded after being given the opportunity to step up.
Blackett made his first-team debut in van Gaal’s first game in charge and has gone on to make ten appearances for United but his chances have been limited in recent weeks.
He has instead been playing in the U21s and was sent off in their game against Sunderland on Monday night.
Regardless of that, van Gaal has clearly seen enough of Blackett to believe he has a future at the club and offered him a new contract.
