Nani backs William Carvalho for Manchester United move

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United loanee Nani believes William Carvalho would be a hit at Old Trafford should they sign him in the summer.

Nani has been playing with Carvalho at Sporting Lisbon after joining the Portuguese club on a season-long loan last year.

A tough tackling defensive midfielder, Carvalho would bring some much needed physical presence into United’s midfield.

The club were heavily linked with him last season when David Moyes was in charge and the Scot regularly went on trips to watch him play.

Their interest has since cooled since Louis van Gaal took charge but Nani said he is ready to play in the Premier League if United want to give him a chance.

Speaking about Carvalho, Nani said: ”He is a great player.

“He has a lot of quality. I think at the end of this season he will be prepared to play in the Premier League. I think if Manchester United are interested it’s a good chance.”

United have been heavily linked with a move for Roma’s Kevin Strootman all season but a recent knee injury means he will be out for the rest of the campaign.

It would be a huge risk to sign Strootman now given he has suffered two serious injuries in the space of two years so Carvalho would be a good plan B if van Gaal is looking elsewhere.
