Louis van Gaal wouldn’t give anything away when asked by reporters about whether Radamel Falcao would start for Manchester United against Sunderland but insisted it was an opportunity as there’s more of a chance he could start thanks to van Persie’s injury

The Colombian striker was dropped from the starting XI for last week’s 2-1 loss to Swansea but with Robin van Persie ruled out with an ankle injury, Falcao could make a return to the starting line-up.

However, van Gaal refused to confirm Falcao would be starting and instead chose not to clarify his team selection tomorrow.

When asked if it was an opportunity for the Colombian, van Gaal said: “The possibility is higher of course because when a striker is away another has to play. I never give you any openings [in terms of who he will play] so we will have to wait and see.”

Man United’s attack has looked limp in recent performances so if Falcao does come back into the starting XI, van Gaal will want him to really inject some impetus back into it alongside either Wayne Rooney or James Wilson.

Falcao hasn’t got much time left nor will he have many better opportunities like a home game against Sunderland where he can get back among the goals. If he draws another blank on Saturday, it won’t bode well for his future.
