PSV Eindhoven have indicated they expect Manchester United target Memphis Depay to leave the club in the summer.
Depay has enjoyed a fine season having scored 18 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions this term and has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
PSV boss Phillip Cocu conceded last month that Depay is more than likely going to leave next season and now Toon Gerbrands, a director at the Dutch club, has admitted the winger could be set to leave in the summer.
Gerbrands said: “Tottenham were willing to offer €20m for Depay. We decided to keep hold of him.
“But he has the option to leave after this season.
“I think these two players are very attractive to a lot of clubs in Europe. So far, no one has come forward with an offer but I expect we will come under great pressure.”
United would have a battle on their hands if they wanted to sign Depay as he is also interesting Tottenham Hotspur but the lure of van Gaal is something that should really play into his hands given his personal history with the winger.
Van Gaal currently doesn’t have much pace in attack at United so Depay’s inclusion would give him the right players to use a 4-3-3 formation he has traditionally used in previous years.
