Wayne Rooney has scored plenty of howitzers during his Manchester United career and one of his most memorable ones came against Newcastle United.
Having just finished talking to the referee moments before, Rooney unleashed an absolutely unstoppable volley which almost tore a hole in the net.
It wasn’t just the manner of the volley, it was the fact he had been having a squabble with the referee only a few seconds before deciding to spank it. You won’t see a better instinctive hit than that.
Ahead of tonight’s kick-off, Rooney has been reminiscing about his volley against Newcastle:
Looking forward to our game tomorrow against Newcastle and building on Saturdays win. Here I am celebrating with Roy Keane and Wes Brown after my volley against them in 2005, one of my favourites from my career so far!
Rooney comes into the game tonight in form having scored twice against Sunderland at the weekend and fans are certainly hoping he can get on the score sheet once again. Asking for a repeat of his volley isn’t too much is it?
