Man United face Newcastle United on Wednesday before an FA Cup quarter-final clash against Arsenal at Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal’s side then take on Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool as they bid to stay in the top four of the Premier League.
April is equally as daunting for United, with matches against Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton all coming up, but Rooney says the team are taking it one game at a time.
Speaking about the fixture list, Rooney said: “We can’t look past Wednesday. Newcastle away is always a tough game and we want to come away with three points.
“It is the start of a big two or three weeks for us. We have done okay in the big games this year – we could have done better, but it is exciting for us with so many of these big games that you want to be involved in.”
Rooney is right that United have a good record against the top teams this year. United have won against Liverpool, Arsenal and Southampton and have drawn at home to Chelsea.
Van Gaal is undoubtedly getting results at Old Trafford but performances will need to be much better if they are to qualify for the Champions League. A particularly abject first half against Sunderland last weekend from an attacking point of view saw chances few and far between for United. It is a source of worry for fans as the team head into the tail end of the season.
