Ander Herrera has admitted he is very grateful for all the support Manchester United fans have given to him and said he has no intention of stopping at the club until he achieves his dreams of winning trophies.
The Spanish midfielder was named February Player of the Month after a very impressive run of form saw him start and score in consecutive matches on the way to helping United secure four wins in the month.
Since the day he was unveiled as a Man United player, Herrera has presented himself very well and fans have found it very easy to connect with him, something he emphasised when talking about his relationship with fans after collecting the award.
“This means a lot for me because the votes came from our fans and I’m very happy and grateful to them,” he said.
“I think they value my work and my passion for playing and I want to try to keep helping the team. I was happy [with my form] but I would have been even happier if we had won against Swansea away. We won four games last month and now we have to continue that – we are in the top four and we want to be there until the end of the season.”
Herrera’s endearing character off the pitch is matched by his performances on it and looking ahead to the future, he made it clear he won’t stop until he has won trophies with the club, something he feels lucky to be a part of.
He added: “I think they like players who work a lot and who play with passion. They have always shown me affection from the first day and I am very grateful,” he added. “I always say this – I feel very lucky to be a Manchester United player and I will always be the same – I want to try to play with passion, work hard and help the team.
“My dream is to achieve trophies with Manchester United – I will not stop until I achieve that.”
Last year under David Moyes there were a host of players who ambled along and let games pass them by but Herrera couldn’t be more opposite. His energy levels and commitment are but a couple of a reasons why fans have taken to him so well. As long as that continues, he’ll always have the fans on his side.
