Manchester United have arguably played their best football of the season with Michael Carrick in the side so Louis van Gaal would have been delighted to see his return to the first-team in the game against Newcastle United on Wednesday.
Coincidence? Probably, but the fact remains that Carrick brings a certain class to United’s play.
With that in mind, we asked our Twitter followers if Carrick should start against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Monday:
@PeoplesPerson_ too much of a risk. Need to pack the midfield and having one player out of touch is a massive risk.

@PeoplesPerson_ Yup. Adds more balance between the defence and the attack. Shift Blind to LB and Rojo back to CB. No risk at all.

Although not all United fans are agreed on whether Carrick should start against the Gunners, most seem to think he should be included in the side at some point.
With United heading into a tough run of fixtures, the 33-year-old’s return couldn’t have been timed more perfectly. However, Ander Herrera may find himself in a precarious position as van Gaal now has to choose between him, Daley Blind and Carrick for the two central midfield spots in the side. Regardless of his decision, it is a good problem for the Dutchman to have.
