Ander Herrera: Manchester United fans are suffering too much

by Sam Peoples

Ander Herrera feels he and his Manchester United team-mates have been making the club’s fans “suffer” this season.

United have been getting some good results during Herrera’s debut season at Old Trafford but the team have often left it late to score.

Daley Blind grabbed a late equaliser against West Ham United last month while Ashley Young netted an 89th minute winner in the 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Herrera says United need to improve and score earlier on in games in order to spare the nerves of the club’s fans.

Speaking about the Newcastle result, Herrera said: ”I think we deserved to win. We deserved to score before and we were a little bit disappointed at half-time because we should have been winning.

“We created chances, we kept the ball and we didn’t give a lot of chances away – I think only one in the first half, in the last minute. But now we are very happy.

“When you win in the last minute, you are very happy. But I think we have to improve, we have to score earlier because our fans are suffering too much.”

Herrera has enjoyed a run of starts in recent matches, which will delight United fans.

The Spaniard was regularly left out of the starting XI by Louis van Gaal earlier in the season despite looking bright whenever he came on and his inclusion has seen United employ a markedly improved style of play. Herrera has also been getting amongst the goals and has scored against Yeovil Town, Preston North End and Swansea City.
